The Lizard is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there is no escaping the reasons why.
The village is surrounded by sea on 3 sides and is a haven for many different types of wildlife. Seals are often spotted bathing on the rocks near the most southerly point. The Lizard also has many different species of rare plants growing wild along the cliff path.
From Penmenner there are many different walks. From turning right at our gates you will find a short bridal path which connects you to the South West costal path at Pistol Meadow where at low tide you can use the old smugglers steps to go down to the a small cove. If you then go up the step to your left you will be walking towards the most southerly point (10 Mins) where there are a handful of shops and cafes including a traditional serpentine turner. There is also a small cove where many local Fishermen launch their boats It also houses the old lifeboat station. If you continue on you will pass the lighthouse and on to Housel Bay (a further 15 mins) where there is a secluded sandy beach.
If you turn right at Pistol Meadow you will be heading towards Kynance (45mins - 1 hour walk or 5 minutes if you prefer to travel by car!). Kynance is one of Cornwall's most beautiful coves, at low tide there is a large sandy beach where you can surf, swim and sunbathe.
The village itself has a variety of shops, places to eat and a traditional Cornish pub all within a five minute walk from the house.
The Lizard is also a great base to explore the many treasures of Cornwall with The Eden Project, St Michael's Mount, The Minack Theatre and many more places to visit within easy reach.
The most popular time to visit Cornwall is in the summer months, however The Lizard takes on many different personalities through the year. Out of season The Lizard is dramatic and atmospheric.
